Description and Heritage Research Results
The Hanchurch Holiday Home for poor children was built in the late 1890s as part of the Duchess of Sutherland’s involvement in charitable causes in Staffordshire.

The Sutherlands were a wealthy Staffordshire family whose main estate was at Trentham in the north of the county.

The home was officially opened in January 1898. It had fifteen beds and provided a fortnight’s summer holiday for children under 12 years old.
